| The Colonial City of El Fuerte, is located in the northern most part of Sinaloa State in Mexico. This city, still with cobble stone streets, dates back to the 15th century. The Spaniards came here for the gold and silver and built grand mansions, and the Fort,. that the city was named after. |

Some of the outstanding examples of this period still exist such as, the Church of the Sacred Heart, the Plaza of arms (central square), Mansion Orrantia, Mansion Almada, and Mansion Joaquin de Ibarra, which is now Hotel El Fuerte. Various other mansions still exist, some preserved and others are in ruins, but this enchanting city still evokes the Spanish Colonial atmosphere today. |
